February 14, 2024 - Nevada County Sheriff's Office officials report that Nevada County deputies on patrol in North San Juan Sunday night February 11, 2024, came upon a vehicle parked at a local bar and contacted the sole occupant of the vehicle. During the contact, Deputies observed a handgun between the driver seat and center console. Deputies were told that the gun belonged to the driver of the vehicle, who had gone inside the bar prior to the deputies’ arrival.

After deputies secured the firearm, which was discovered to be loaded, they entered the bar to locate the driver. The driver was contacted and identified as Wayne Rogers, age 62 of Nevada City. Rogers did not have a concealed carry permit and was determined to be prohibited from possession of firearms or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction. Rogers was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.
