February 15, 2024 - San Diego Police Department officials report that on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at approximately midnight, San Diego police officers were dispatched to a report of gunshots in the area of 1100 Koe Street. Officers arrived on scene and found a 42-year-old male lying outside of the residence located at 1127 Koe Street. The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. Paramedics responded to the scene, but the male had succumbed to his injuries and they pronounced the male deceased at the scene. The victim was later identified as Daniel Coriz of San Diego.
The investigation revealed two unknown race males approached the victim. One suspect fired several rounds striking the victim. The suspects were both described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a black bandanna covering their face.
Since 2014, San Diego Police has continued to investigate this case. As the investigation progressed, Detectives identified Sonny Estrada as the suspect who shot the victim. Estrada is described as a 50-year-old Hispanic male.
Estrada was located at San Diego County Jail already in custody for an unrelated charge. On February 9, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., he was booked at Jail for one count of murder.
