Tried to Get Away
February 23, 2024 – Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials report that Sergeant Ronald Nohles from Marina del Rey Station Marine Operations Unit provided details on the boat team’s daring rescue of the passengers of a stranded boat on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
While returning from rescue training at sea in a joint operation with Parks Bureau deputies, Marina del Rey Harbor Patrol deputies received a “May Day” call from a boater who stated his boat had become disabled by his fishing trap lines just outside of the Marina del Rey breakwaters. As a result of the crash a boat passenger had fallen overboard into the waters. The boat deputies responded in full force and rescued the fallen passenger and the remaining 4 occupants from the boat.
Through a coordinated effort with the Los Angeles County Lifeguards Baywatch del Rey, the disabled boat was towed to safety into the marina. Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident.
