February 29, 2024 - SAN QUENTIN – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials report that condemned individual Melvin Turner passed
away at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center on February 24, 2024, at 6:04 p.m. He was 67 years old.
Turner was sentenced in Los Angeles County on August 29, 1979, and placed on condemned status. He was convicted of first-degree murder, robbery, vehicle theft, and first-degree robbery attempt.
Turner and a co-defendant shot two people execution-style in an airport hangar while attempting to steal the victim’s sports car.
There are currently 646 condemned persons in CDCR.
