Update: Attempted Murder in Valley Center 

February 29, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Friday, February 23, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., deputies were san diego county sheriff department logodispatched to a shooting in the 7500 block of Mendoza Road on the Rincon Indian Reservation. Responding deputies located a 46-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, who was transported to the hospital by air ambulance. A 31-year-old male was detained and a rifle was recovered at the scene.

The 31-year-old Valley Center resident, identified as Kyle Del Gregory, was arrested, and booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Gregory is being held without bail and will face multiple felony charges to include attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

On Monday, February 26, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the shooting victim, identified as Jason Gillespie, succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced deceased.

Sheriff's Homicide Detectives have updated the charges against Kyle Del Gregory to include 187(a) PC – Murder.

At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation.

The Medical Examiner's Office has determined Gillespie died from gunshot wounds. The manner of his death was ruled as a homicide.
