March 1, 2024 - San Benito County Sheriff’s Office officials announce how and where to report potential election issues.  

Community Members - your Sheriff’s Office team supports free and safe elections in our county, state, and country.

As this election nears, we are seeing an increase in calls to the Sheriff’s Office regarding campaign violations.

Be design, Sheriffs in the State of California do not enforce or investigate political campaign, or election violations.

Here is some information that may help:

ENFORCEMENT IN CALIFORNIA

  • False or Misleading Campaign Materials

No agency enforcement. These issues are dealt with in court.

  • Violations of Political Reform Act

Title 9 of California Government Code at Sections 81000 through 91015

i.e.: mass mailing requirements; slate mailers; campaign disclosure; proper use of campaign funds; disclosure of economic interests;

  • Election Fraud
