Double Homicide in Grantville

March 3, 2024 - San Diego Police Department officials report that on March 1, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., the San Diego Police Communications Center received a report of a shooting in the 4500 block of Alvarado Canyon Rd. in the Grantville neighborhood.  Officers from the San Diego Police Department’s Eastern Division responded quickly and located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds inside the stairwell of an apartment complex. The victims were transported by paramedics to local hospitals for treatment.

Both victims are described as Black males in their 20s or 30s. Unfortunately, they were both pronounced deceased at the hospital. Neither victim has yet been identified. Detectives will work with the County Medical Examiner to identify them.

San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and are currently investigating the incident. Although details are not yet clear, based on the preliminary investigation, it appears there was some sort of altercation among a group of people near the pool area inside the apartment complex. At least one suspect and possibly two pulled out firearms and began shooting. It is possible there were more people also shooting, but that will have to be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of the physical evidence. The victims ended up in a nearby stairwell where they were located by officers.  The suspects possibly left on foot and fled to the west. The initial description provided was one or two Black males wearing red hoodies and black or red pants. The police helicopter was used to check the area, but the suspect(s) were not located.

As officers arrived, they detained a group of people leaving the complex after the shooting. None of this group appeared to be the suspects and they were all released at the scene.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
