Federal, State and Local Partners Work Together to Help Storm Survivors
March 13, 2024 - San Diego, CA – As recovery efforts continue in San Diego County following the January 2024 Storm, FEMA, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and local partners continue to proactively work together to bring relief to affected communities. In just three weeks since Governor Gavin Newsom secured a Major Disaster Declaration from President Joseph R. Biden, more than $12.6 million has been dispersed to help residents repair damage to their homes and property.
In addition to needed repairs, FEMA-provided disaster assistance funds are available to help with temporary lodging and rental assistance as affected survivors work on getting their homes fixed.
“Working together to get financial assistance into the hands of those affected by this storm and flooding is an essential part of the recovery process,” said Cal OES Director Nancy Ward. “Our combined efforts will continue to focus on making sure resources are available to deliver hope and help to those who need it.”
“For everyone who has suffered damage to their homes and property from January’s flooding, we understand this is a difficult time and recovery can never take place fast enough,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Allison Pfaendler. “FEMA is committed to providing all the assistance available to survivors, so they can get back into their homes as soon as possible.”
Individuals, families and business owners in San Diego County covered in the Presidential Major Disaster Declaration who sustained losses currently have until April 19, 2024 to apply for disaster assistance.

- Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. PT daily. Help is available in most languages.
- Go online to gov.
- Download the FEMA mobile app.
- Visit a Disaster Recovery Center. There are two centers currently open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PT daily. They are located at:

- Immigration status checks are not available at the DRCs.
- The deadline to apply is April 19, 2024.
