March 14, 2024 - Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials report that multiple members of the OC Sheriff Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team were injured during a joint training exercise with the Sheriff’s Hazardous Devices Section (HDS).

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, members of our SWAT team were conducting their annual joint training with HDS at the FBI Special Agent Jerry Crowe Regional Tactical Training Facility, in the City of Irvine. During the training, an explosion occurred indoors causing injuries to sixteen members of the SWAT team.

Fifteen members were transported to local hospitals by ambulance, and one was able to transport himself to the hospital.

One member suffered a non-life threatening leg injury requiring surgery, one suffered a superficial injury to his leg and one other suffered superficial injury to his back. Thirteen others were transported to the hospital with dizziness and ringing to their ears.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department, in coordination with the FBI, is conducting an investigation.
