March 30, 2024 - Grass Valley, CA – Nevada County Sheriff's Office officials report five suspects are in custody this morning following the pursuit of a vehicle that was Nevada County Sheriff Office logoallegedly taken in an armed carjacking from Sacramento County overnight. Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) received notification at 5:15 a.m. that the wanted vehicle, a black Chevy Volt, had just been scanned on a Grass Valley License Plate Reader camera entering the city near McKnight Way. NCSO along with Grass Valley Police Department (GVPD) and California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the vicinity to conduct a search for the stolen vehicle. Within minutes, GVPD located the vehicle, which fled east on Hwy 174 after failing to yield. A pursuit ensued, but officers lost visual of the vehicle after passing Greenhorn Access Road at approximately 5:37 a.m.

Nevada County deputies and allied agencies continued to search the area where the vehicle was last seen, and Placer County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) joined the effort near Colfax. Approximately 5:47 a.m. NCSO located the vehicle traveling east on Hwy 174 near the Bear River Bridge, where it once again failed to yield. NCSO engaged in pursuit of the vehicle, as it continued into Colfax and Placer County. When the suspect vehicle reached Colfax, it continued southbound on South Auburn Road to Placer Hills Road, where the driver lost control and crashed at 5:50 a.m. The five occupants, four males and one female in their teens, exited the vehicle and began to run from the scene, but four of the five were quickly apprehended by deputies and NCSO K9 “Vito”.

The lone female suspect, identified as 18-year-old Monroe Hubbert of Grass Valley, fled into the woods and was able to evade capture temporarily, until tracked by a PCSO drone and PCSO K9 Unit who had responded to the scene to assist. All five were successfully placed under arrest and transported to hospitals for evaluation of minor injuries. Three of the teenage minors are expected to be booked into Placer County Juvenile Hall upon medical clearance. The second adult was identified as 19-year-old Joshua Sisk of Lincoln. Sisk and Hubbert will be booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.

NCSO is currently working with detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office in this ongoing investigation, and the totality of charges remains pending at this time.
