March 31, 2024 - The Monterey County Sheriff's Office reports on March 29, 2024, about 1000 hours, Monterey County Sheriff's Office Investigations Bureau, Property Crimes Unit members, executed a search warrant on the 11000 block of Poole Street in Castroville.

During the search warrant, Detectives contacted and arrested Jose Melgoza (32) of Castroville for being in possession of illegal items including high-capacity magazines and brass knuckles. Jose Melgoza was confirmed to be a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing these items.

Detectives also located an unserialized firearm (Ghost gun), along with ammunition and other firearm parts which were also confiscated during the operation. Alejandro Melgoza (31) of Castroville was later contacted and took responsibility for the firearm. Charges against Alejandro Melgoza will be forwarded to the Monterey County District Attorney.

Jose Melgoza was booked into the Monterey County Jail for the following violations: 30305(a)(1) PC, Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition/Magazines; 30305(b)(1) PC, Street Gang Member Prohibited From Owning/Possessing Ammunition/Magazines; and 21810 PC, Possession of Brass Knuckles.
