April 9, 2024 - Los Angeles - Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officials report Newton Area detectives are currently investigating two separate LAPD logoanimal cruelty cases involving dog shootings within the past two weeks.

On March 29, 2024, around 11:00 p.m., Newton Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the area of 23rd Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Officers located a dog that had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and located evidence of a shooting. The officers transported the animal to a local veterinarian for treatment and the animal survived.

On April 7, 2024, around 3:30 a.m., Newton Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the area of 52nd Street and Avalon Boulevard. Officers located another dog that had suffered a gunshot wound and located evidence of a shooting. The animal succumbed to its injuries.

There is no suspect information.
