May 28, 2024 - Riverside County Sheriff's Department officials update:

The victim in this case has been identified as Ryan White, a 43-year-old resident of San Diego County. The suspect in this case has been identified as Benjamin Velez, a 40-year-old resident of Homeland. On May 27, 2024, Velez was arrested and booked into Riverside County Jail for Murder.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time. If anyone has information regarding this investigation, they are encouraged to call Investigator K. Details:

On May 26, 2024, at 5:32 p.m., deputies assigned to the Perris Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to an assault with a deadly weapon call on the 31000 block of Neer Street, Homeland. Deputies arrived and located an adult male inside of a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. The male was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. At the location, deputies also contacted and detained a possible suspect, without incident. The suspect required medical attention and was also transported to a local hospital for treatment. The scene was secured and the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumes the investigation.

The identity of the victim will be withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. At this time, due to the ongoing investigation no further information will be released. There are no additional suspects believed to be outstanding.
