Missing Motorcycle Rider Located 

June 6, 2024 – Alturas, CA – Modoc County Sheriff's Office officials report that a reported missing person from San Ramon, CA, was located approximately 4 miles south of Alturas near Hwy. 395.

Wiliam Robert Knight, 73 was reported missing by the San Ramon Police Department on Sunday, June 2^nd, Knight was on a motorcycle trip to Idaho and had been communicating with his family up until Thursday, May 30^th, when he reported being in Lakeview, Oregon. The following day Knight's cell phone pinged off a cell phone tower in Alturas at approximately 11:00 a.m., but no contact was made. His family reported that he was due back in San Ramon on Saturday, June 1^st. When he didn't arrive home, they reported him missing.

On Monday, June 3^rd, the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office an searching the Alturas area where Knight's cell phone last pinged. The search continued Tuesday afternoon with assistance from the San Ramon Police Department, Modoc County Sheriff's Posse, CHP, and members of Knight's family.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., the Modoc County Sheriff's Office Communication Center received a 911 call from a motorist, advising of a body located south of Alturas in the river. Modoc County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area and positively identified the remains as William Knight. Knight's motorcycle was later located in the river and retrieved near Knight's remains.

CHP is currently investigating the accident, and the Modoc County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause and manner at his death. Knight's family has been notified.
