June 13, 2024 – Imperial County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at approximately 8: 17 P.M. (2017 hours), Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Winterhaven Station Deputy responded to the area of Cocopah Rd. and Indian Rock Rd. in regard to approximately 15 shots heard. Deputy then conducted a patrol check of a nearby trailer park locating a Ford F-150.

When the driver of the Ford noticed the ICSO Patrol Unit it attempted to leave the area at a high rate of speed endangering the residents of the trailer park. The ICSO Deputy initiated a traffic enforcement stop on the Ford and then a short vehicle pursuit ensued. The driver of the Ford disabled the vehicle and got stuck in a nearby dirt area. The Deputy was then involved in a foot pursuit where he arrested the driver of the Ford and with the help of the Quechan Police Department, they then located two other subjects which were also arrested.

A search of the Ford was conducted and as a result a 30 round 7.62 mm AK-47 magazine, 7.62mm ammunition and 22 caliber expanded ammunition were located. A patrol check of the route taken during the pursuit was conducted which led to the discovery of an AK-47 and a Ruger Model 10/22 Rifle. The driver and one of the passengers were booked into the Imperial County Jail for attempting to escape from law enforcement recklessly and without regard for public safety, weapons charges, extended magazines, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
