Deadly Crash in Del Mar
June 20, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that a woman is facing felony charges following a deadly crash in Del Mar.
It happened on Tuesday, June 18 just before midnight in the 2000 block of Coast Boulevard.
Deputies with the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded and found a 2019 Maserati Gran Turismo had crashed into a tree and a parked Dodge Ram. They found a 62-year-old man in the passenger seat of the Turismo and provided life-saving measures at the scene. Paramedics rushed the man to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries. No bystanders were hurt and no one was inside the Dodge at the time of the crash.
The County Medical Examiner's Office will make a positive identification of the passenger, as well as determine cause and manner of death pending notification of his family.
During the preliminary investigation, deputies learned the Maserati was driving north on Coast Boulevard when it left the road, struck a parked car and collided with a tree. The driver left the scene and was later arrested. She was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of injuries she sustained in the crash.
She will be booked at Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter and DUI related charges.
