Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision

June 24, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:05 p.m., deputies assigned to the San riverside county sheriff logoJacinto Sheriff’s Station responded to the area of Ramona Expressway and Old Mountain Avenue regarding a major-injury traffic collision.  Before deputies arrived on the scene, a driver involved in the collision fled the area.

The San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. A preliminary investigation revealed that a blue Kia was being driven at a high rate of speed eastbound on Ramona Expressway and was passing other eastbound traffic in the westbound lane.  While the driver of the Kia was attempting to pass a silver Chevrolet, the two vehicles collided, pushing the Chevrolet off the roadway where it overturned.  The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

The collision investigation required the temporary closure of Ramona Expressway, between Old Mountain Avenue and East Esplanade Avenue, to process the scene and collect evidence.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Deputy Cortez at the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station at 951-766-2368 or Riverside County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 951-776-1099.
