July 5, 2024 – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that this is preliminary information about an officer-involved shooting in Southeast Division. We are still in the early stages of this investigation. Investigators still have body-worn video to review, as well as other video and physical evidence to examine:
At around 9:00 p.m., Southeast Division officers were patrolling in the area of Broadway and Rosecrans Avenue when they initiated a traffic stop on a white Chevy sedan near the intersection of Broadway and Rosecrans Avenue.
As the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop, the suspect immediately shot at the officers. Officers returned fire, and it’s unknown if the suspect was struck. Both officers sustained injuries, described as glass shards and a graze wound to the head.
After shooting at the officers, the suspect sped away. Officers followed the suspect’s vehicle to the area of Broadway and 135th Street, where they lost sight of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a white Chevy sedan last seen traveling north on Broadway from 135th Street at around 9:00 p.m.
Fire Department paramedics transported the officers to a nearby hospital for examination and treatment and both are in stable condition.
There is an active search for the suspect and vehicle. Investigators are urging anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the attack on our officers to contact the LAPD.
