Assault with a Deadly Weapon
July 12, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 1:54 a.m., deputies from the
Lake Mathews Sheriff's Station responded to the 1300 block of Magnolia Avenue in the city of Corona regarding a victim who had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim stated on Sunday, June 23, 2024, about 11:37 p.m., he was traveling north on Temescal Canyon Road approaching Dawson Canyon Road when he was struck by gunfire. The victim was later transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Lake Mathews Sheriff's Station Investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. During the investigation, investigators identified the suspect as Luis Orlando Quiroz, a 45-year-old resident of Corona. It was later learned Quiroz's child was in the vehicle during the shooting and was unharmed.
On Thursday, July 11, 2024, about 8:30 a.m., with assistance from the Riverside Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau, Quiroz was located, apprehended, and taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was served at his residence, and investigators located four handguns and ammunition of various calibers. Quiroz was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and unlawful possession of a firearm. This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional details are available.
