Fatal Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision

July 29, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 5:08 p.m., deputies assigned to riverside county sheriff logothe San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station responded to State Street, south of Esplanade Avenue, in the city of San Jacinto, regarding a major injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Deputies arrived within minutes and located a subject on the shoulder of the road with severe injuries. Deputies rendered medical aid to the subject until the arrival of Hemet Fire, who took over life-saving measures. The pedestrian ultimately succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian fled the scene immediately after the collision. The San Jacinto Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The pedestrian’s identity will not be released at this time, pending notification to the next of kin.

The ensuing investigation led to the identification of the vehicle involved in the collision, a white 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. It was later located and stopped in the city of Moreno Valley. The driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision was identified as Darell Davis, a 33-year-old resident of Moreno Valley. He was arrested and booked into jail for the felony hit and run. The vehicle involved had extensive damage and was impounded as evidence. The cause of the collision is still under investigation; however, it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor. No further information will be released at this time.

The collision investigation required the temporary closure of State Street between Esplanade Avenue and Fruitvale Avenue in order to process the scene and collect evidence. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Deputy Bunn at the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station at (951) 654–2702 or Riverside County Sheriff’s Dispatch at (951) 776–1099.
