Fatal Traffic Collision Involving a Pedestrian
August 21, 2024 – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that South Traffic Division detectives are investigating the 
circumstances of a fatal traffic collision involving a pedestrian.
On August 16, 2024, around 10:00 p.m., a white sedan traveling south on Central Avenue near 88th Street struck and killed a 43-year-old pedestrian who was crossing outside of the crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping and rendering aid to the victim as required by law. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and attempted life-saving measures. However, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a traffic collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene as required by law.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
