Elder Abuse/Grand Theft - Imperial Beach
October 31, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that a woman is in custody on suspicion of elder abuse, grand theft and burglary in Imperial Beach.
On October 24, the 78-year-old victim discovered numerous pieces of jewelry missing from her home. She reported the theft to the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation. The victim described the stolen items as a ring with a yellow diamond valued at $200,000 and a pair of diamond earrings valued at $60,000.
On Wednesday, October 30, Sheriff's Detectives received information about a woman attempting to pawn the stolen items in the City of San Diego.
Detectives responded to the pawn shop and detained Maria De Los Angeles Cabrera (DOB 03/24/1985). She was arrested and booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on charges of burglary, elder abuse and grand theft.
Detectives were able to recover the stolen jewelry and return it to the victim.
