Vehicles Involved in Street Takeovers Impounded by Paramount SAO Deputies
November 4, 2024 – Lakewood Sheriff's Station officials report that the Paramount Special Assignment Officers (SAO’s) continue to work hard to combat illegal street racing and street takeovers. They recently served warrants and seized two vehicles that were involved in a street takeover on October 14 at the intersection of Garfield Ave. and Alondra Blvd. Participants of street takeovers usually gather from different neighboring cities. In this case a participant from Los Angeles (green Camaro) and a participant from Compton (black Camaro) had their vehicles seized from their residence and impounded for 30 days, pursuant to 14602.7 (a) of the CA vehicle code.
Word to the wise, don’t come to Paramount to participate in street takeovers. You are risking arrest, having your vehicle seized, and could face thousands of dollars in fines and court fees, not to mention our friends from the DMV adding "points" to your driving record which will have long-term financial consequences including having your drivers license privilege suspended.
Are you just a spectator in the crowd? If so, you are not left behind. The City of Paramount has something for you as well. You can be fined up to $2,000 for participating in a street takeover as a "spectator". This includes anyone in a crowd near an intersection where a street takeover is taking place.
The City of Paramount, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will continue to enforce all applicable city and state laws to curb this dangerous behavior that puts our community at risk and too often leads to injuries or loss of life.
