January 25, 2025 – Imperial County Sheriff's Office officials announced last Tuesday that it has ICSO car seatreceived a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support its Child Passenger Safety Program. The program will promote best practice strategies that will be conducted to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in crashes involving children under the age of eight years old. The strategies will include education, child safety seat check-ups, community events, presentations, providing educational materials, and the distribution of child safety seats. The grant program runs through September 2025. 

"We are excited to receive this grant, which will allow us to significantly develop and enhance our Child Passenger Safety Program," Imperial County Sheriffs Sheriff Fred Miramontes said. "By focusing on education, awareness, and promoting safe practices, we aim to reduce crashes and prevent injuries. Ultimately, we're working toward building safer roads where everyone can travel safely and confidently." 

Grant funds will support various activities focused on Child Passenger safety: 

  • Conduct Community Child Safety Check-ups Events 
  • Participate in the Child Passenger Safety Week September 21-27, 2025 
  • Participate in the National Heatstroke Prevention Day May 1, 2025 
  • Conduct child safety seat education classes 
  • Distribute OTS Funded child safety seats at no-cost to families who receive child safety education 
  • Conduct individual child safety seat checkup by appointment to promote correct usage. 

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
