Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision 

May 3, 2025 – Canoga Park, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that Detectives from the Los Angeles Police LAPD logoDepartment’s (LAPD)Valley Traffic Division are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that resulted in the death of a man in his 60’s.

On May 2, 2025, around 1:10 a.m., a pedestrian was walking across the roadway on Sherman Way, just east of Independence Avenue, when he was struck by a vehicle (described as a black Mercedes-Benz) traveling eastbound on Sherman Way. The driver continued eastbound on Sherman Way, failing to stop, identify themselves, or provide aid, as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased at scene. His name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

While detectives conducted their investigation, the hit-and-run driver returned to the scene and was interviewed. He was identified as 29-year-old Marvin Edgardo Pineda, a Northridge resident and the driver of a 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE53. Pineda was arrested and booked at LAPD Van Nuys Jail for 20001(a) VC – Felony Hit-and-Run (Booking No. 7008733).

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
