June 20, 2025 – Yuba City Police Department officials report that on Tuesday night around 10:30 P.M., a Yuba City Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop for traffic violations. While speaking with the driver the officer could smell the strong odor of burnt marijuana. The passenger was found to be on active searchable probation, prompting additional officers to assist.
The driver, identified as 30-year-old Gilbert Delsied of Yuba City, began acting erratically and aggressively. As officers attempted to detain him, he resisted briefly before being secured in the back seat of a patrol car. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9mm handgun, 10 grams of cocaine, and a loaded high-capacity .45 caliber magazine.
Officers utilized a restraint tool called the WRAP restraint system to safely secure Mr. Delsied which prevented him from injuring himself, officers, or causing further damage to the patrol car. It was determined that Mr. Delsied was under the influence of alcohol, cocaine, and marijuana and he was booked into Sutter County Jail on multiple charges:
11370.1(a) HS – Possession of controlled substance while armed
594(b)(1) PC – Felony vandalism
148(a)(1) PC – Resisting/obstructing a peace officer
23152(f) VC – DUI drugs
This case is a strong reminder of the dangers our officers face during seemingly routine stops and the importance of thorough investigation and teamwork. We commend all officers involved for their professionalism and safety-minded response.
