Criminal Threat in Del Mar 

September 7, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that a man has been arrested on suspicion of san diego county sheriff department logomaking criminal threats toward Del Mar City Hall. 

On Thursday, September 4, just after 4:30 p.m., deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a criminal threat made against staff at the Del Mar City Hall, located in the 1000 block of Camino Del Mar. The threat was received via telephone, during which the caller made alarming statements about "shooting up" the facility. 

Deputies responded immediately, conducting a safety sweep of the Del Mar Civic Center, where City Hall is located, to ensure the immediate safety of city staff and the public. Out of an abundance of caution, Del Mar officials canceled a scheduled public concert being held at the Civic Center.

Through investigative efforts, the suspect was identified as Kyle Knudsen (42) of San Diego. Later that evening, deputies and detectives from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station located Knudsen outside his home in the 1400 block of Garnet Avenue. He was arrested without incident.  A registered firearm was recovered at the scene along with an illegal 15-round magazine, in violation of California Penal Code 32310.

Knudsen was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of making criminal threats (PC 422) and possession of a large-capacity magazine.
