Update on Missing Person: Gil Clark of Goodyears Bar
November 17, 2025 – Sierra County Sheriff’s Office officials are providing an update regarding missing person
Gil Clark, a resident of Goodyears Bar who was reported missing in August of this year.
A thorough search was conducted at the time with assistance from Nevada County Search and Rescue, covering the four-mile stretch of Highway 49 between Downieville and Goodyears Bar, an area Mr. Clark was known to frequently walk. Deputies and SAR members also searched the area surrounding his residence, including the wooded terrain behind his home. During these efforts, searchers noted significant bear activity, and neighbors reported recent mountain lion activity in the vicinity.
Over the past several months, the Sheriff’s Office continued to investigate Mr. Clark’s disappearance, following up on tips and conducting interviews. On November 14, deputies conducted an additional search, expanding on the original search areas. During this effort, clothing and personal items belonging to Mr. Clark were located.
With this new information, Nevada County Search and Rescue was again requested to assist on November 15. Personnel from both counties, along with four cadaver dogs, conducted an extensive search. Unfortunately, no further evidence was located.
Based on the investigation and personal items recovered, it is believed Mr. Clark likely suffered a medical emergency near his home that incapacitated him or resulted in his death. Further evidence indicates he was likely dragged from the area by a bear or mountain lion.
This case remains open, and deputies will continue to investigate all leads. Anyone with information regarding the disappearance of Gil Clark is urged to contact the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 289-3700.
