Information Sought on Fatal Hit-and-Run of 88-Year-Old Man
April 3, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that on April 1, 2026, at 7:35 p.m., a
vehicle, described as a possible black sedan, was traveling northbound on Avalon Boulevard and collided with an 88-year-old male pedestrian who was walking eastbound in a marked crosswalk on the north side of East 49th Street. The driver of the black sedan fled the scene without stopping to render aid and identify themselves as required by law.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the male pedestrian to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The public is reminded that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road.
Motorists are reminded that if they are involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s
identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
