Homicide Investigation Update
June 11, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at
approximately 11:20 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man shot inside the business located at 1050 Howe Ave. Deputies arrived on scene and located a 31-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until fire personnel arrived, however, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Deputies determined the suspect had fled the area prior to their arrival. Homicide Detectives responded and launched an extensive investigation. Through the use of video surveillance and witness statements, detectives identified 28-year-old Xander Burnside as the suspect responsible for the shooting. Detectives subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for murder, and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau immediately began searching for Burnside.
Just after noon Tuesday, June 9, 2026, detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau located Burnside in Pinole, CA, and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was booked on murder charges and is ineligible for bail.
