Hit-and-Run Leaves Pedestrian Deceased 

August 20, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that Central Traffic Los Angeles Police Report Investigation Opened into In-Custody ...Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision that fatally injured a man in his 30’s.

On March 1, 2026, around 11:16 p.m., a light-colored Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue when it collided into a male pedestrian, who was walking eastbound on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue in the number two lane. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, render aid, and remain at scene, as required by law and fled the scene eastbound on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was treated for severe injuries. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries days later.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
