If convicted as charged, Anthony Guiterrez faces 20 years, eight months in state prison

October 30, 2026 – SAN FERNANDO, CA – Los Angeles Police Officer Anthony Guiterrez was charged on October 28 with kidnapping and assaulting the mother of his children while off duty. The charges stem from an argument during which Guiterrez allegedly held the victim at gunpoint.

“A law enforcement officer takes an oath to serve and protect, and that responsibility does not end when the uniform comes off,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “The defendant allegedly betrayed that oath by committing an act of violence against his own family. Domestic violence leaves lasting scars, causing harm that extends far beyond the immediate incident and can affect victims and their loved ones for years to come. Our Family Violence Division is committed to holding those who commit these crimes accountable.”

Anthony Guiterrez (30) of Sylmar, is charged in case 26SFCF02126 with one felony count each of kidnapping and assault with a firearm, and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death. It is also alleged that Guiterrez used a firearm in the commission of the crime.

On October 26, Guiterrez and the adult victim, who were in a dating relationship at the time and have two minor children together, got into an argument that escalated with the children present. Guiterrez allegedly pointed a gun at the adult victim and walked out of the house with her. Guiterrez was taken into custody shortly after by Los Angeles police officers.

Guiterrez pleaded not guilty at arraignment on October 28. The Court set bail at $350,000. A preliminary hearing setting is scheduled December 4 in Department G of the San Fernando Courthouse.

If convicted as charged, Guiterrez faces 20 years, eight months in state prison.

Deputy District Attorney Myle Phan of the Family Violence Division is prosecuting the case, and the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating.

The charges in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
