August 9, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Monday.

Fire: The Dixie Fire is now 489,287 acres, a gain of 25,810 acres with 21% Contained. Crews continue to work the fire lines to hold areas that have been worked on previously. Growth to the north and northeast is projected.

Smoke: Forecast wind direction is indicating that smoke will be transported mainly to the east/northeast of the fire area over the next couple of days. This is good news for the outlook area as only some areas of drift smoke should persist over the area. The north end of the outlook area (Reno) may see some unhealthy for sensitive groups, but the rest of the area should see improved air quality with only isolated areas of moderate to heavy smoke

Health and Safety:
If you smell smoke or see ash due to a wildfire, here are ways to limit your exposure: Remain indoors with windows and doors closed or seek alternate shelter; Avoid vigorous physical activity; Run your air conditioner if you have one. Make sure it has a clean filter and that it is recirculating the indoor air to prevent bringing additional smoke inside; Create a space in your home with filtered air, by using a portable air cleaner instead of or in addition to your air conditioner. ... Avoid using a whole-house fan or a swamp cooler with an outside air intake; http://www.aqmd.gov/home/air-quality/wildfire-health-info-smoke-tips#
