August 10, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Tuesday.
Fire: The Dixie Fire is now 487,764 acres, a reduction of 1,523 acres due to better mapping with 25% Contained. Weather indicates that we have the potential for major fire growth due to increased atmospheric instability. There may be some burn out operations in the West Zone.
Smoke: Forecast wind direction is from the Southwest. This should move any smoke that has settled in low lying areas away from those areas improving air conditions to the west and south of the fire. Areas north and west of the fire will experience poor air quality. Chester and Susanville will be the lowest air quality. Smoke will generally be moved into the Great Basin.
Health and Safety:
Avoid outdoor activities People should avoid exercising outdoors during smoky conditions. Exposure and the resulting health effects depend on the amount of time spent outside, level of exertion, level of air pollution, and possible existing health conditions. Consider eliminating outdoor activities altogether when the AQI reaches unhealthy levels. California Air Resources Board
