August 13, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Friday.
Special Statement: If you are in areas of Unhealthy to Hazardous air quality, please use the 'Smoke Ready' link below to learn how to protect yourself from wildfire smoke.
Fire: The Monument Fire grew approximately 4500 acres and is now 71,865 acres at 5% containment. Crews are focused on directly defending communities and preparing indirect lines where possible. There was 2000 acres of growth on the McFarland Fire, mostly on the SE portion on the fire. It is now 38,498 acres with 57% containment. Dry thunderstorms could threaten the perimeters of both fires this afternoon.
Smoke: Yesterday, the smoke was stagnant for most of the day due to the high pressure sitting over the area. Smoke for today and Saturday will likely stay with us until the high pressure system weakens on Sunday. We expect heavy smoke impacts in communities close to the fire while smoke from neighboring fires will impact the Sacramento Valley.
