August 16, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Monday.

Fire: The McFarland Fire grew to 51,909 with containment at 68%. The Monument fire, now 97,287 acres, is reporting 10% containment. Both fires had significant growth on the southeast side of their perimeters due to the northwest winds and the clearing of smoke over the fire - teams are expecting similar active fire behavior today.

Smoke: Yesterday, the smoke made a huge push down towards the east and concentrations jumped in the north end of the Sacramento Valley. The fire will be active again today so we expect more smoke impacts to influence air quality in communities near the fire and towards the east. We are starting out with less smoke over the fire which may help reduce the severity of the smoke impacts compared to what we experienced yesterday evening. For today, areas to the west are clear and Moderate further to the south.
