August 16, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Monday.

Fire: The Dixie Fire is now 569,707 acres, an increase of 14,891 acres with 31% Contained. Containment efforts have been successful, but there are still areas of high fire activity on the north end of the West Zone and the east end of the East Zone. Expecting a frontal passage over the next couple of days. This will likely increase fire behavior.

Smoke: Heavy smoke trapped in the Central Valley will continue to move into the outlook area throughout the day. This will result in decreased air quality throughout the day. This afternoon, southwest winds associated with a cold front moving in from the Pacific Ocean will begin to move the trapped smoke out of the area. This will begin to provide better air quality later today in the valley locations and later this evening in the foothills and mountains.

Health and Safety:
If you are told to stay indoors, stay indoors and keep your indoor air as clean as possible. Keep windows and doors closed unless it is very hot outside. Run an air conditioner if you have one, but keep the fresh-air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent outdoor smoke from getting inside. Seek shelter elsewhere if you do not have an air conditioner and it is too warm to stay inside with the windows closed. https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/wildfires/duringfire.html
