August 18, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Wednesday.
Fire: The McFarland Fire is now 110,725 acres, with the last reported containment at 53%, and the Monument Fire is now 128,613 acres and 10% contained. Crews are continuing to secure containment line and prep contingency lines as both fires continue to extend further south and east. More active fire and growth is expected today with a Red Flag Warning in effect for the area until tonight.
Smoke: As winds from the north picked up yesterday afternoon, the smoke in the Sacramento Valley ventilated out and we saw much improved air quality. We are seeing some smoke this morning impact the area, but by midday, the northeast winds will pick up keeping the smoke aloft during the day. Smoke is likely to settle this evening and overnight in many areas and may reach sites in Mendocino county.
