August 23, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Monday.
Fire: Heavy smoke continued to limit the Monument and McFarland fires yesterday. On the McFarland Fire acreage was last recorded at 117,985 and increased to 66% containment. The Monument Fire is now 148,213 acres and remains at 16% containment.
Smoke: Smoke is primarily expected to be terrain driven near active fires. Mountain communities near active fires will continue to see Very Unhealthy conditions, with little relief in sight. As the inversions and marine layer breaks down those communities along the Trinity River below Willow Creek will see an increase in smoke into the Unhealthy range, before returning to Good conditions overnight. A similar pattern is expected in Mendocino county, but to a lesser degree, where smoke levels could rise to USG levels before improving. Redding and other communities along the 1-5 corridor in the northern Sacramento River Valley will generally see conditions in Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups as the valley winds will continue to clear smoke drifting into the area to some degree.
