August 23, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Monday.

Fire: The Dixie Fire is now 725,822 acres, an increase of 4,524 acres since yesterday, with 40% Containment. Active fire behavior and smoke production remains in areas on the north, east and interior of the Dixie Fire. 

Smoke: Dense smoke has sunk into valley bottoms and drainages near active portions of the Dixie fire overnight. These areas include Chester, Susanville, and others where Very Unhealthy to Unhealthy air quality is being reported this morning. Areas further from active fire are seeing lesser smoke impacts, but this should change in the late morning as smoke mixes down to the ground degrading air quality into the Unhealthy to USG ranges midday. All communities in the forecast area should see improving air quality late this afternoon, similar to yesterday, as smoke lifts and the southwesterly winds drifts it off to the northeast bringing in cleaner air from the west.
