August 24, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Tuesday.
Fire: The Dixie Fire is now 731,310 acres, an increase of 5,488 acres since yesterday, with 41% Containment. Active fire behavior and smoke production remains predominantly on the north and southeast perimeters of the Dixie Fire.
Smoke: Heavy smoke has again sunk into valley bottoms and drainages downslope of active portions of the Dixie fire overnight. These areas include Chester, Susanville, and others where Very Unhealthy to Unhealthy air quality exists this morning. Areas further from active fire are seeing lesser smoke impacts with air quality in the Unhealthy to Sensitive Groups and Moderate ranges. By midday today, mid level smoke is expected to mix down and degrade air quality for a several hours before the smoke lifts and drifts off to the east due to the afternoon southwesterly winds over the region. This will improve air quality substantially in the later afternoon/evening in most communities effected by the smoke. Similar conditions were seen yesterday and are expected again for tomorrow.
Health and Safety:
Long-term smoke events usually have periods when the air is better. When air quality improves, even temporarily, air out your home to reduce indoor air pollution https://www.airnow.gov/sites/default/files/2021-07/reduce-your-smoke-exposure.pdf
