August 24, 2021 – Here are the operational updates for the Dixie Fire from the Lassen National Forest for Tuesday, August 24, 2021. This page will be updated.
6:30 P.M. DIXIE FIRE EAST ZONE OPERATIONAL UPDATE
In the Genesee Valley, along the old Walker Fire scar, firefighters continue to do battle to hold the direct line with helicopter and tanker support. Very large air tankers (VLATs) dropped retardant south and west of Grizzly Peak in the afternoon with support from helicopters dropping water. Mop up and prep continues around houses in the Valley. Other crews made progress on both sides of the Grizzly Peak spot fire, also with the help of aircraft.
The Taylorsville area was a focus of operations today as the fire backs its way down toward the community. The fire continues to spread with material rolling off the hill and starting spot fires that then, burn back up to the main fire. The Taylorsville, Indian Valley, and Greenville Fire Departments assisted in the installation of an extensive hydrant operation with trunk lines that run throughout Taylorsville. These wide diameter lines will be fed by large volume 2,100 gallon per minute pumps, drafting from the creek that push enough water to fill a water tender in two minutes. Portable tanks are also being set up throughout town to provide additional water. OES has also sent a contingent of engines to assist with structure defense in Taylorsville.
Three indirect contingency lines on Mt Hough should be near completion in a few days and the crews doing mop-up and patrol in the Dyer area did not find much heat today; they will continue that work tomorrow. In the Antelope Lake area, firefighters continue to mop-up as the westerly progression of the fire has been stopped.
Weather tomorrow is expected to be a copy of today with the fire still active in the early morning.

Resources in Peters Creek are continuing to mop-up a lot of the fire’s edge. They are working south towards Beardsley Graveyard and continuing along the dozer line all the way back to South Foreman Road, improving the area.
From the South Foreman Road area, crews are making sure the handline is good all the way up to the dozer line, improving it where needed and ensuring it will hold the fire.
Firefighters are spread out from Genesee all the way up to Bridge Check and the Flournoy Bridge patrolling, mopping up and making sure that there are no homes impacted and that all the smokes around the homes are mopped up. The goal is to be able to move that area to patrol status when it’s done, freeing up resources to help in Taylorsville if needed.
Crews and equipment continue working on direct line construction on the Walker Fire slop over, assisted by aviation assets. There are engines on Genesee Valley Road making sure that where the fire meets the road, the fire stays on the correct side. Dozers are being moved up the road to finish some direct and indirect line and connect the fire edge all the way back to the Walker fire scar, as well as make sure that everything that’s underslung in there will hold and there will be no issues.
Taylorsville, Greenville and Indian Valley Fire Departments, with the assistance of crews and engines, have been in Taylorsville all day prepping structures and putting in a water supply line and making sure that is tested and will work throughout the community. The system has extensive trunk lines and hydrants in town tied into the creek. The lines pump 2100 gallon per minute and can fill a water tender in 2 minutes. assisting with set up of the water system. Crews are also improving and trying to finish the dozer line from the ridge on Mt Jura, down to Taylorsville proper

Monday, August 23 - 10:15 A.M. OPERATIONAL UPDATE – Dixie Fire
Last night, things went fairly well in the Genesee Valley. One of the early evening spot fires was contained quickly at two acres. Today, the Genesee Valley Road is the priority for firefighting resources and aircraft. In particular, they are concentrating on the narrow area where the road turns up toward Taylorsville.
In other area, the fire perimeter nearest to Milford is looking fairly secure and crews will be mopping up today. Also, a spot fire below Antelope Lake last night, was picked up and is now contained.
