6:00 P.M. DIXIE FIRE EAST ZONE OPERATIONAL UPDATE

Crews in Peters Creek are mopping up the fire’s edge from Foreman Road to South Foreman Road to seal off the corner of the fire that sits at the toe of the slope. Along Genesee Valley Road, they are working around the structures to protect them. On the south end of the valley, crews are engaged in structure protection in the Grizzly and Ward Creek areas.

All helicopters are up, and activity is picking up in Taylorsville. Firefighters are working on a few spot fires there, while others continue to prep structures. Retardant has been sprayed down the dozer line along the ridge over town as well as in various locations around the Taylorsville. Up on Grizzly, crews are working the west side to keep it at bay by tying the line into a rock scree field. Firefighters are patrolling and mopping up in Indian Valley, while work continues on the lower end of Antelope Lake.

The contingency line continues to progress south of Grizzly Mtn. Fire managers feel the lines will be completed in the next few days. The Incident Meteorologist says tomorrow will also be a little bit warmer with less wind, but humidity should be about the same with a possibly very delayed lifting of the inversion.

2:30 P.M. DIXIE FIRE EAST ZONE OPERATIONAL UPDATE

Just a few quick updates. Crews are continuing to prepare and hold Taylorsville in advance of the fire. Activity has picked up and there is a visible column developing over Grizzly Peak. Tankers have been flying most of the day and crews are currently working to hold the fire to the north of the Peak.

August 25, 2021 – Here are the operational updates for the Dixie Fire from the Lassen National Forest for Wednesday, August 25, 2021.  This page will be updated.

Operations in the Genesee Valley are advancing, and crews continue to secure and mop up around structures all the way out to Taylorsville. Near the slopover into the Walker Fire scar, crews and equipment USFS logohave strategically repositioned near the road in the event of any additional spotting.

Yesterday afternoon’s 593-acre spot fire on Peel Ridge burned very actively all night and into the early morning blending with the Grizzly Peak spot fire and remains an area of concern should it push east. Firefighters, with the help of aviation, are actively trying to stop its spread.

In Taylorsville, water operations were put in place by a large contingent of crews and engines working alongside cooperators from Indian Valley, Taylorsville, and Greenville Fire Departments. They were able to plumb every single structure with hose line. The ridge line up from Taylorsville on Mt Jura continues to be prepped and has a long system of retardant in place. Crews were able to get dozer line put in at the toe of the slope down to the valley floor and they continue to look for more opportunities to put in more contingency lines.

Most of the rest of the Valley is in patrol and mop up status and the one smoke seen was well interior. Engines will continue patrolling and looking for heat for the next couple of days.

The Dyer areas looks good. Crews are working in a wedge of green trees there that has a lot of fuel. There is no threat to control lines in the Antelope Lake area, but crews will continue to work on the heat that is between the Lake and Antelope Lake Road.
