August 31, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Tuesday.
Fire: Cooler temperatures but fuels remain critically dry with low humidity and lighter westerly transport winds over the fires today. The Monument Fire is now 166,967 acres with containment of 29%. The McFarland Fire remains at 122,653 acres and containment of 95%.
Smoke: Smoke transport is expected to be mostly terrain driven with areas near active fires continuing to see Hazardous to Unhealthy conditions. Light westerly transport winds will continue to keep conditions in Mendocino and Humboldt counties mostly clear, however they will also push smoke into Redding and into the northern reaches of the Sacramento River Valley. Willow Creek and nearby communities in the Trinity River drainage west of the fire, should see similar conditions today as smoke should start to clear early afternoon with upcanyon winds, unless the Knob Fire becomes active, in which case air quality can degrade quickly. Similar conditions expected tomorrow.
