September 2, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Thursday.

Fire: Continued cool, dry weather persists with light variable transport winds over the fires. The Monument Fire is now 174,795 acres with containment of 29%. The Knob Fire near Willow Creek has grown to 2066 acres. The McFarland Fire remains at 122,653 acres and containment of 98%.

Smoke: Smoke will be mostly terrain driven with areas near active fires continuing to see Hazardous to Unhealthy conditions. Smoke will pool in communities and will be slow to disperse due to weak transport winds. This afternoon, smoke will push towards the coast due to an offshore flow. Good to moderate air quality is expected in Redding and the northern reaches of the Sacramento River Valley as winds from the south increase. Willow Creek and nearby communities in the Trinity River Valley should see worsening conditions due to the Knob Fire. Air quality worsens tomorrow and through the weekend in the forecast area as the atmosphere becomes more stable.
