September 3, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Caldor Fire for Friday.
Fire: 212,987 acres, 29% contained. Thanks to a drop in gusty winds the fire activity has slowed, providing additional opportunities for fire crews to secure the perimeter. Lighter winds are expected again today, allowing the crews on the east side of the fire to make additional progress.
Smoke: Heavy smoke conditions overnight settled into Sly Park, Apple Hill, and Placerville. Expect to see this settling again tonight. Light winds will continue to push smoke into the near by communities of South Lake Tahoe, Tahoma, Tahoe City, Carson City and Gardnerville throughout the day. This morning will see minimal improvement of conditions until the heat of the day helps lift the smoke a little. The potential for a light north wind this afternoon will channel the smoke down the American River Valley towards Placerville and the Sacramento Valley. This evening expect cumulative smoke from multiple fires to settle into the deep river drainages and Sacramento Valley. The high pressure system over the region will limit the movement of this smoke throughout the weekend. Expect additional smoke impacts to settle back into Placerville, Sly Park, Roseville, and Auburn. Carson City, Reno, Gardnerville, and Minden will continue to be impacted by the active smoke column.
Health and Safety: Take it easier during smoky times to reduce how much smoke you inhale. If it looks or smells smoky outside, avoid strenuous activities such as mowing the lawn or going for a run. Reduce Your Exposure
