April 4, 2019 - Yosemite National Park is continuing pile burning this week before rain arrives this weekend.
Small piles will be lit in Yosemite Valley starting at El Cap Crossing and continue east as conditions permit.
As well as small and large machine piles in Wawona starting at Koon Holler road then working along Chillnualna road near the fire station.
Pile burning is permissive on burn days.
When weather and fuel conditions are right pile burning is an effective way to reduce hazardous fuels, excess biomass, and restore forest ecosystems to a historic healthy state.
In this photo Yosemite Fire personnel are using a leaf blower to add oxygen creating more heat to increase fuel consumption and reduce smoke.
