May 24, 201 9- Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein today released the following statement on a Senate agreement to provide disaster funding for Americans affected by natural disasters:

“I’m pleased the Senate has reached a deal to help California families who continue to rebuild after last year’s devastating wildfires. Of the $19.1 billion in the disaster bill, California will be eligible for $12.6 billion. Those funds will go a long way toward helping thousands of families still hurting.

“I want to thank Senators Shelby and Leahy for including language I authored to ensure those who suffered from the Paradise fire will be eligible for USDA rural development funding. Under current law, those families and the community aren’t eligible for funds because of the town’s population prior to the devastating Camp Fire.

“The scale of last year’s destruction was unprecedented, including the deadliest and most destructive fires in California history. Wildfires killed 100 people, destroyed more than 15,000 homes and burned 1.9 million acres, including the entire town of Paradise. These additional federal funds will ensure that recovery efforts can continue without the threat of delay.”

Following are the major sources of funding available to California:

  • USDA Farm and Rural Assistance: $3 billion
  • Army Corps Flood Infrastructure: $1 billion
  • Community Development Block Grants: $2.431 billion
  • Emergency Highway Repairs: $1.65 billion
  • Economic Development Assistance: $600 million
  • EPA Water grants: $349 million
  • Education Assistance: $165 million
  • Social Services Emergency Fund: $201 million
