July 7, 2019 - Sacramento – The League of California Cities issued the following statement on Wednesday in response to the Assembly Housing and Community Development League of California Cities logoCommittee passing SB 5 (Beall, McGuire, Portantino) with a 6-1 vote. SB 5 establishes a state partnership with cities and counties to provide an ongoing, sustainable and accountable source of funding that will help build affordable housing to address the housing shortage and homeless crisis.

“California’s housing shortage and homeless crisis is a matter of statewide concern impacting all communities and our residents,” said Carolyn Coleman, executive director of the League of California Cities. “SB 5 creates a much-needed partnership between the state and local governments to provide sustainable funding to build homes affordable to those most in need.”

Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
