July 12, 2019 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports high temperatures Saturday afternoon in the San Joaquin Valley will be near 105 degrees.
Most people have experience with this kind of heat and will instinctively know how to avoid heat-related problems.
Although heat events like this are relatively common, heat-related impacts are possible Saturday for those new to the area if simple precautions are not taken.
Plan to take action to reduce time outdoors, drink plenty of water, and remain in air-conditioned buildings.
Heat-sensitive groups, such as the elderly, young children, and those with chronic ailments may need assistance to avoid heat-related illness.
As always, never, ever leave a child or pet in an enclosed automobile.

An upper-level area of high pressure over the Four Corners will be responsible for hot weather this weekend. The hottest day should be Saturday as high temperatures will be six to nine degrees above normal for this time of year. Temperatures will decrease to seasonal values early next week. A few thunderstorms may develop over the Sierra Nevada crest this afternoon. && .DISCUSSION... An upper-level area of high pressure will be centered near the Four Corners today through Sunday. Infrared satellite imagery depicts monsoonal moisture progressing northward along the western periphery of this anticyclone over San Bernardino County. It is not out of the question that some of this moisture may make it into the Southern Sierra Nevada, resulting in a few thunderstorms developing along the crest this afternoon. The aforementioned area of high pressure aloft will be responsible for hot weather this weekend. High temperatures this afternoon and Sunday afternoon should be around five degrees above normal for this time of year. The hottest day should be Saturday, with maximum temperatures near 105 degrees in the San Joaquin Valley. An upper-level trough of low pressure will approach the Pacific Northwest Sunday night, before moving to the northeast into Western Canada Monday. As a result, temperatures Monday will return to seasonal values. A stronger trough of low pressure aloft will approach the coast of the Golden State Monday night. This upper-level trough of low pressure will remain over California Tuesday through Wednesday, prior to weakening Wednesday night. Zonal flow aloft is expected Thursday. Temperatures Tuesday through Thursday could be a couple of degrees below normal for this time of year.
